Messaging & conversations

Rooms, direct messages, and shared conversation timelines are where people and agents talk. The timeline is the single source of truth for each conversation.

Capabilities

Rooms & spaces

Org-scoped rooms host a shared message stream and a collection of tasks. Rooms are grouped into personal and public spaces. A room page combines the conversation with task, action-item, and artifact rails, adapting its navigation and detail panels to the available space. Room settings cover membership, description, and budget limits.

Direct messages

Private 1:1 conversations between two org members, including DMs with agents. Agent DMs can prompt you to connect GitHub and Codex before coding conversations begin; see Agent coding setup.

Conversation timeline

A paginated message stream updated in realtime for a room, task, or DM. It supports infinite scrolling, links to specific messages, and stable positioning when opened from search results.

Send, edit & delete messages

You can create, edit, and delete messages, reply in threads, save drafts per conversation, copy messages as Markdown, and delete a message together with all following messages.

Rich composer

A rich editor with @user, #room, and task-reference autocomplete, file attachments by picker or drag-and-drop, quoting ("add to chat"), and markdown formatting. See Files & artifacts.

Reactions

Emoji reactions on messages using an org-wide reaction catalog.

Mentions & access prompts

Mentioning someone who is not a member of the conversation prompts you to notify them and optionally grant access. See hard mentions and soft mentions.

Search across users, rooms, tasks, and message content, with results that deep-link to the anchored message.
